Local, up to date and current directory for baby businesses in Suffolk.

I attended Karens YogaBellies classes when I was pregnant with my little one, now I must admit I am not what you would call your usual Yoga person. I have no balance, I’m a tad (ahem) overweight and I am not flexible in the slightest.

Karen made me feel very welcome and helped me not feel like I was utterly useless (which I was, but by week 3 I reckon I got the hang of it!) If you are pregnant or have had a baby Karen has classes to suit you.

Here we meet Karen and find out what makes her and her business tick.

Where are you based?

I run my classes from All Saints Church (Park Road, BSE) in the main hall, and in studio 3 of the Bury Leisure Centre, Beetons Way

How did your business come about? Did it start as a hobby or did you know that you wanted it to be a business from the very beginning?

I came across Yogabellies on Facebook where they were advertising for teachers. I have practiced yoga for about 10 years and always enjoyed the positive body and mind health aspects of it. I also had an interest in pregnancy and babies, having initially trained as a midwife when leaving school although ended up in teaching. I was looking for some work-life balance, and loved the ethos of the company. So I signed up!

Tell me a bit about your business, what makes it special?

Yogabellies classes are all about each woman finding their own unique yoga journey, be it physical, spiritual, hormonal or emotional (or all of them) . I try to keep the classes small so they can be personalised depending on how the women (and babies) are feeling that day. The women who come feel comfortable and form friendships. Many move from the pregnancy class to the mum and baby class with each other. There is time for relaxation, breathing exercises, the physical poses as well as time to chat!

How long have you been in business?

I started teaching Yogabellies classes in Bury St Edmunds in July 2016.

What is your favourite part of being your own boss?

I enjoy the contact with the clients, and the feeling of satisfaction I get when I receive lovely feedback after classes.

Do you offer products or services?

I offer the following three yoga classes: Yogabellies for Pregnancy Yogabellies Core Play (for all ladies) Yogabellies Mum & Baby

What is your favourite product or service you offer?

I love all three classes for different reasons!

Time to get a bit personal…Lets find out all about you.

What kind of family commitments do you need to juggle along with your business? How do you find balance?

I teach 3 days a week in a primary school and have 3 children of my own aged 5 to 17 years! Life is busy but I try to fit all my work into the week days so to keep the weekend free for the family.

What is your favourite tv shows, food, or song?

I love series such as Breaking Bad, Vinyl, Better Call Saul etc I eat anything! Love red wine too! Always got music playing somewhere – especially something from the 80’s or 90’s (showing my age now)

What can you be found doing on a weekend? or when you have time off?

I try when I can to go to watch football. I travel down to London to meet up with my dad and go to watch Spurs at White Hart Lane. I’ve had a season ticket there since 1985! Otherwise with the family swimming or going to parks

What is your favourite place to get away to? And why?

I love visiting my friends and family in London where I grew up. Abroad, we love to go to Tenerife. I’ve been going there since I was a small child and it’s where I met my husband in 1992!
