Getting To Know Your Business

Do you have a shop front? Where are you based?

I am based in North West Ipswich, within easy reach of the A14 and A12.  I have a purpose built home studio in my garden.

Tell me a bit about your business, what makes it special?

As a photographic artist my work is as unique as I am. My photographs reflect my subject’s personality and character, and are tastefully enhanced while keeping my images natural.

I primarily photograph newborn babies and expectant mums, but also offer family and baby photography as well as cake smash photo shoots.

My studio is a warm and welcoming homely environment which puts my clients at ease. It is important to me that my clients enjoy the whole photo shoot experience as well as the resulting images.

I am fully insured for public liability and indemnity, as well as having undertaken newborn training in safety and posing with some of the UK’s leading trainers.

How long have you been in business?

Formally known as Carly Seaman Photography, I started out back in July 2016. My business has evolved a great deal in this time as I continue to grow as a photographer. My background is in Graphic and Web Design, which I got a good degree in at University.

I decided to change my business name as wanted to reference the very reason for me starting my business, and that was my daughter Lucia Violet.  While always a keen amateur photographer, I fell in love with baby photography after having her (I wasn’t aware of the possibilities with my first born), in December 2015. I opted to not use her first name as it is mispronounced a lot, so included her middle name as Violet was also the name of my beloved nan. The prefix ‘little’ is because most of my clients are little! Plus I love all shades of purple, so it really was an obvious choice!

I started out mobile, photographing babies in their own homes, but soon realised I wanted to offer a more professional service where I had easy access to all my beautiful props and outfits. So after initially setting up my studio in my house, borrowing the kid’s play area and then dining room, I realised I needed a dedicated space of my own. So my gorgeous home garden studio was created with the skills of my husband and father in law., and houses all my luxury props and outfits and provides the setting for most of my images.

I also enjoy outdoor photography and am looking to undertake some training next year, to further broaden my skill set in this area.

What is your favourite part of being your own boss?

I love being able to be at home with my daughter, although a lot of my time is spent editing when I am not shooting! I make sure I have days off for just us time, where we will go to the soft play areas, have a nice walk with our dog or just go shopping! She’s only 2 but she already likes shopping with her mummy!

Do you offer products or services?

Please give information about these products / services. I offer a complete baby photography service, from maternity photography, to newborn, to baby, to cake smash and to family.

My pricing is transparent, I offer three Collections to choose from for each service and your initial booking fee is taken off your final order.

For those who want to add on extra digital images, prints and wall art, I also have an A La Carte menu where you can choose further products to add to your Collection.

After your photography session you return to the studio for a Viewing & Ordering Appointment where you view your beautiful images set to music, on a large screen. From here you then make your selection as to what images you want to take home with you. I am there to guide you through the process and happy to help with designing wall art and albums.

What is your favourite product or service you offer?

I would probably say maternity as I love being able to give a mum to be beautiful images of themselves, at a time when they may not be feeling their best.

I have a gorgeous selection of quality dresses and gowns and love dressing my ladies up to make them feel special. I then work my magic on them to produce heirloom quality images which you can then hand down to future generations.

Pregnancy is the start of your family journey and the majority of my ladies return to me for newborn and family photos. I love watching their babies grow and change. It is a very rewarding part of my job.

If I want to hire you for your services, how can I do this/find you?

I am easily found online at www.littlevioletphotography.co.uk. My website has details of all my services and portfolios of my work. Full details can be found there.

Little Violet Photography is also on Instagram (www.instagram.com/littlevioletphotography) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/littlevioletphotography), as well as Twitter (https://twitter.com/LittleVioletTog), but I must admit I don’t use Twitter very often!

Time to get a bit personal…

What kind of family commitments do you need to juggle along with your business? How do you find balance?

I am a very busy mum of two, a boy of 7 and a girl of 2. I also have a dog, 6 guinea pigs and a tank of tropical fish. Oh and a husband! Finding a balance is still a work in progress, but things will get a little easier once my little girl starts nursery in January.

What are your favourite tv shows, foods, or songs? I like crime dramas like Luther and anything psychological, thrillers and horror films and reading books about anything similar. I love Indian and Italian food. Music I like covers a huge range from Bob Marley to Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers to Ed Sheeran.

What can you be found doing when you have time off? I am a keen horse rider, so love my weekly riding lessons. I also enjoy family dog walks, eating out and going to the cinema with friends.

What is your favourite place to get away to? And why?

My most favourite family holiday at the moment was the Algarve in Portugal. It was beautiful, the food was lovely and there was plenty to see and do.

And last but not least! Snog, Marry, Avoid: Mr Tumble, Mr Bloom, Mr Maker!!

Avoid Mr Tumble, most definitely! Snog Mr Maker and Marry Mr Bloom…. My husband may have an opinion on this though!!!
