Getting To Know Your Business

Do you have a shop front? Where are you based?

No, classes will run from Ipswich

Tell me a bit about your business, what makes it special?

My classes and workshops are all about helping parents feel confident and knowledgeable when it comes to pregnancy, birth and looking after their baby.

My pregnancy and postnatal exercise classes are alignment and movement based. They are specifically designed to help create a comfortable pregnancy and a smoother, easier birth and recovery postpartum.

The workshops are designed to help parents understand research and evidence so they can make an informed decision when it comes to birth and caring for their baby. There is such a range of information out there it can be overwhelming. By using a couple of easy decision making tools it becomes much easier to work out what is best for them. And with a range of tools and techniques they can approach birth and parenthood feeling much more confident and knowledgeable.

How long have you been in business?

In total 8.5 years. Most of this under Nature and Nurture banner. My new venture – that brings all my training and experience together now runs under Labyrinth of Nurture and will launch classes and workshops in October, so this is a really exciting and busy period for me right now.

What is your favourite part of being your own boss?

Dictating my own hours so I can work around family life, which means I have time to be able to home educate my children.

Being able to create my own unique courses.
And making sure I can take the day off if I need to without getting into trouble!

And now lets find out a bit about you, the person behind the business.

What kind of family commitments do you need to juggle along with your business? How do you find balance?
As I mentioned I home Educate so have to fit in work around this. It can be a busy life, Juggling it takes a lot of planning I have recently started a structured planning system which involves lots of whiteboards and lists – it works really well and ensures I make sure I have plenty of downtime. I also have a business strategist who I work closely with and find she has really helped to keep me focussed and on track. She knows exactly when I need a pep talk and when I need a boost and is the first to point out if I need to take a break. She’s great!

What are your favourite tv shows, foods, or songs?

We are currently bingeing on Orange is the New Black and enjoying reminiscing over Friends. I do really enjoy noodles with fried halloumi and various veg, but also need to have regular crisps and chocolate. I have just bought a dehydrator so am looking forward to seeing what I can make with it. (Am I allowed to say a beer is essential too!)

What can you be found doing when you have time off?

I love walking – we live in the middle of some great walks and when I get the chance a solo walk really fills my cup. I also love dabbling in poi and hoola hoop dancing (it’s not as elegant as it sounds – I am still at the stage of being hit in the face a lot or chasing a hoola hoop around – but it’s great fun when I nail a new trick)

I also enjoy reading and have just joined a book club.

What is your favourite place to get away to? And why?

During the summer I love Otley Hall – it has a labyrinth, peacocks, beautiful gardens and some lovely cake! It is really peaceful.

We also go to a Home Educators Circus Camp once a year – a week camped in the middle of a field with no technology but lots of laughs and a chance to have a go at various circus skills. We’ve been for 4 years now so it is our regular family holiday and we all look forward to it lots.

And last but not least! Snog, Marry, Avoid: Mr Tumble, Mr Bloom, Mr Maker!!

Yeah – erm I’d like to avoid them all really – we have Blippi on here a lot I might have a coffee with him but nothing else!
